    Just found your channel, and I love it. Your common sense approach mixed with science/research is very appreciated and uncommon in this day and age. I'm currently at day 1493 of running 2 miles per day. My first attempt at a year-long streak ended with forgetting as well. 😅

    Good pacing for this kind of effort is how fast you can go while taking in >100g of carbohydrate per hour and ~750ml of fluids. Congratulations on emerging on the other side of that bonk! It is not easily done :)

    Very interesting race concept, with the gondola going down. This allows the runner to concentrate on the uphill. What many people don't realize is that the downhills are actually the worst part of a trailrace for your muscles.

    It's very hard to know what is the "pace you can maintain" in a 5k. Most of the time that pace is going to be way faster than what you do in training, you just have to endure more pain. I'm also not sure slowing down a little during a race means you haven't reached your "full potential".

    I run for fitness, mood enhancement and strength, not for weight loss. I learnt years ago, from experience, that a simple 5km run 3 or 4 times a week barely burns any calories. So I agree with the 2nd guy. There are way better ways to lose weight.

    There's a massive difference I think between someone with a sports and fitness background running a marathon (or ultra) without training and someone who has never done any running or even long distance walking. I run a 50/60km trail race a few times a year and last year got a last minute chance to run an 80k completely unprepared. I took the opportunity. Not having trained for that specific distance it was very tough, but if I didn't often run 40-60k it would have been nearly impossible. Great video Goran & Mark.

    Everyone I see who attempts these runs and claims they haven't trained. Is in-fact indicating 'haven't trained specifically for a running event'. I am in my mid sixties. This time next year I will eligible for the N.Z pension. Because of constant injuries I quit running. Note: Just the training though. Instead of running I went swimming and on the rowing, ski machines. Then I decided - much to my wife's derision - to enter in a 50 mile 'off road' event i.e. 80km ultra. I missed the challenge. The only 'on feet' training I had did was walking the dog. Importantly: I did train hard. Two sessions a day some days. Gym and pool. With not an actual kilometre of run training under my belt. I finished. Last. It wasn't easy. Ugly at points. The last 20km was a death march. Treasure my finishers medal. To to see people in their prime doing something like this. Running marathons without specific training. I shrug my shoulders. Believe that most fit people that age with enough mental fortitude it's entirely possible. Like my run I highlighted though. It will be ugly! You will question your sanity. PS: I've now entered an off-road marathon in March using the same training method.

    I was quite puzzled that the entire height of the Everest should have been ran/climbed within just 12 hours, knowing that decent cyclists take around as much, (or even longer) but it is clear now. This is not "proper" Everesting. For proper Everesting one should also run/cycle down the same road/path on their own, no car or cable cars allowed. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everesting

    I've done 3 bike Everestings over the years, the fastest one in 18.5 hours. However, running Everesting AND within 12 hours(!), even with taking a lift on the way down, is a completely different level of a nutcase!

    amazing challenge :) my toughest run was in Portugal in the mountains, 43K in August last year, it took me just over 7h, and my fingers were swollen so much I had to remove my ring. I drank around 12-14L during the race. Super hot, and dry.

      The record for that is 10.5 hours, some people's fitness levels are ridiculous.
